Changes Points to Inches in Advance?

D

I've asked this question under General Questions but not received a specific
answer, so I'll ask it here:
In advancing text on a page, the field requires using points as the unit of
measure, not inches. Is there a way to change that to inches? I'm tired of
doing math conversions. I'm using Word 2003 (SP3). The default unit on the
toolbar is inches, so why can't the advance field also use inches??
NOTE: I am NOT interested in using a Footer or a Text Box, I just want to
change Points to Inches in Advance. I'm guessing the answer is no, but I'm
asking anyway.

I have just answered this in Docmanagement (General Questions), I will repeat
here.
Tools, Options, General tab, change the Measurement Unit to Inches, this
should change all measurements in the Word environment to inches.
Hope this helps

Please ignore my answer, Advance Field only handles Point I believe, That is
why the previous answers in the other forum where trying to give you
alternatives so you don't need to use the calculator.

Most of the others have attempted to avoid seeming rude and they hate to
disappoint, but as a nasty old curmudgeon I can invoke the license to give
it to you straight: No. Seriously, I don't believe anyone was ducking your
question, but as Suzanne pointed out it's a field that rarely gets used in
the first place. Consequently, there "may" be a possible workaround but if
so it isn't very widely known & is not published anywhere currently in
circulation. The swithches available for the ADVANCE field accommodate
points only:

At some point when I complained about this, someone (maybe Jay Freedman)
created a macro or add-in that would provide this functionality. I'll see if
I can dredge it up.

Peter Jamieson has provided a quite elegant reply to the original thread in
the docmanagement group.
