Changing Access Database without Changing Prior Info

Hi, I'm not very Access-oriented. Starting Jan1, 2013, I have updated my database to reflect an area code in the phone number BUT I do not want it to reflect this change to the phone numbers previous to Jan 1, 2013. This seems simple...but I can't seem to find any info on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
