Can I change assignments to a task in Project Server

Hi Jothi,

May be I am not understood your question correctly.

If you assign a resource to task, it will be called as assignment

Assignement without resource is called Task.

i.e. If you remove the resources from assignment, then it is called as
Task.

Thanks

Chak,

That is not really correct.

A task is a task.
A resource is a resource.
An assignment is when a specific resource is assigned to a task. Assignments
must have both task and resource.

There is no such thing as an assignment without a resource.

Hi Jack,

YES, That's what I am trying to explain.

If you have assignment (Resource assigned to task) is will show up in
timesheet. But task is just task, it will not show up in timesheets.

My wording might not looking good in my previous posting, but that's
what I am trying to say.

Thanks

Hi Jothi,

Okay, your original posting "How to change the assignment to task"
create the confusion. With no reason, my self and Jack are exchanging
the postings :)

:) Now answer to your updated question

It depends on how to proceed with your situation

Example:

Task A -> Resource A

New Resource Name: Resource B

*************************************************

Scenario 1:

If Resource A already worked on Task A and actual work associated with
this task and you want have visibility of Resource A's actual work on
project plan.

Solution: Create new task and assigned the Resource B; assign work;
Also make remaining work is zero for Resource A.

Alternatively, you can use copy assignments method in Resource Usage
view. This method copy the actual work and as well as work.

*********************************************************************************

Scenario 2: You have Task A and you didn't have any actual work from
Resource A

Solution: On Gantt chart view, just pick the Resource B from dropdown
against Task A

***************************************************************

Chak.
THanks for the reply. Since i am new to Project Server . Is it possible to
change the resource on the Project Server on the PWA. I know we can do this
in Project Professional.

Thanks for your help.

There is no way to change task assignments through PWA. This function
requires Project Professional.

Chak or Jack, correct me if I'm wrong:)
