Changing cateogory permissions

J

I've done a search of the postings but didn't find this issue. My
project manager permission must include "assign resource" as part of
the template (seems obvious - must have been left off by the
programmer). How can I add that back in so I don't have to manually
check it off everytime I make someone a manager?
thanks

You definitely need to set this permission at the Group level in the Project
Managers group. You should NOT set permissions for anyone at the individual
level except as an override. Hope this helps.

Actually, I've checked the group permissions, and Assign Resource is
checked on. But when I assign an individual from the template for
Project Manager, it's off!

Why are you setting permissions for an individual user using a template? As
I stated, you should simply add a resource to the appropriate Group and let
the system then control the permissions from the Group. Let us know.

So if I put someone in a group, shouldn't the permissions from the
group show up automatically in that person's individual profile?
Because those check boxes are completely empty.

No, no, no! When you add a user to a Group, the user inherits the
Group/Category permissions from the Group, but those settings DO NOT show up
in the Category or Global Permissions sections of the user's account. That
is why the check boxes are empty. Trust me, when you add a user to a Group,
the user permissions are set as specified in the Group. Hope this helps.

Alrighty. I'll test this.

Before you test this, be sure to remove any Categories you have added to
each user account and also set the permissions in the Global Permissions
grid to Not Allowed (neither Allow or Deny is selected) for each user
account as well. Otherwise, the settings for the user account will
"override" the settings from the Groups to which the user belongs. Hope
this helps.
