Changing Date on retrieve documents

Anthony Squires

Hi all,

I am using Word 2002 in Windows XP Pro.

Evertime we open a sales letter it displays at the top
above the customers address the date the document was
originally created.

Everytime we open the sales letter Word changes, or
updates the Date in the document to the current date and
we loose track of when the document was created.

Is there a way we can turn of this auto update of the
date, so it will display the date the document was first
created, and not the current date.

Thanks for your help
Anthony

Anthony,

Select and right click the date field. Toggle field
codes. Change {DATE} to {CREATEDATE}, right click and
update field.

If you are using Insert>Date and Time when you initially
apply a date to a document then make sure Update
Automatically is not checked in the Insert Date and Time
dialog box.

Anthony,

When you open the document click...

File | Properties | Custom: and Date Completed from the
Name field.

Under Type, select Text

Under Value, enter the date of the sale, in MMDDYYYY,
(e.g., 08/15/2003).

Doing this will enter the date you enter here where ever
you enter the Date completed field.

Enter the field by....

Insert | Field | Date and Time | Create Date

This is what is diplayed when I right click on the auto
date:
(TIME \@ "dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy")

This is what it translates to:
(Friday, August 15, 2003)

Now this document was created a long time back, of course
I don'y know because Word put this new date in, and the
original date has gone.

This happens on every document, so if I decided to open
all last months sales replies, the would all be saved
with todays date and would mess things up for future
reference.

Still confused by how to stop this date updating. I
would like it to work on new documents, but not on
documents already created.

Thanks
Anthony

Change TIME to CREATEDATE, and you will recover the original date.
