Changing default font size

R

Richard Evans

I have an Excel 2003 spreadhseet in which I want the defaul font size
to be 12 points. The Help text says:

Tools > Options > General > Standard Font Size 12

I did that, got a message to quit and reopen the file for the change
to take effect, but when I reopened it it was still 10 points.

Then I read elsewhere on this group that that only changes the default
for future worksheets, but not the current one. That didn't work
either. I created a new worksheet and it too was still 10 points.

What's the deal?

got a message to quit and reopen the file for the change....

Change the default font.
Say OK to the message (by the way, the message is "For your changes to the
standard font to take effect, you must quit and then restart Microsoft
Excel"--not just the workbook).
Quit Excel.
Open Excel.
What's the default font?
Worked for me in Excel 2003.

Yes, that's what I did.
Quit Excel.
Open Excel.
What's the default font?

What do you mean by this? Is this a question I should have seen upon
restarting Excel? If you are asking me what the default font is, it's
still 10 points.

Not for me.

Not for me.

Richard,

Change default font.
SAVE and exit.
Re-open your workbook.

Does this work?

Nope. FWIW, if in the reopened file I go back to the General tab, the
font size there shows 12 point. However, the font box in the toolbar
shows 10 point and any text I type is 10 point.

Richard,

OK then, the sheets are formatted for 10 point, as the default was 10
when the sheet was created. You'll have to select all cells, each sheet,
and change to 12.
New sheets should "default" to 12 now ( that doesn't include any blank
sheets you already have)

Just curious... why do you need to change the font size?

OK, that works. All text becomes 12 point and any new text is entered
as 12 point.

To make it easier to read. It's getting increasingly difficult for me
to read small text. I use the magnification features on my mouse a lot
and I routinely work in larger fonts whenever possible.

Yes, I know I could change the magnification level, but that doesn't
change the printed size.
