Microsoft in their extreme wisdom removed *ALL* defaults from Publisher
after the excellent Publisher 97. Can you believe anybody could do such a
thing!!! *EVERY* other program has defaults, so why remove them.
The soon to be released Publisher 2003 *STILL* has no defaults, but they
have coded an add-in which makes a new text frame in the scratch area that
retains the defaults.
One of the major reasons I still have Publisher 97 loaded and still well in
use.
Up to Publisher 2002, there is nothing that cannot be achieved in Publisher
97. Publisher 98 was the biggest rip-off Microsoft have ever done along
with PhotoDraw or whatever the garbage was called. Publisher 98 was
Publisher 97 with all the defaults REMOVED and other features and marketed
as an upgrade and improved product - talk about lies, deception and fraud.
This is what Publisher 97 has in the way of defaults.
You can do this for only one publication on the fly and it will be saved
with the publication, or you can save it for all publications that you open
as a blank page.
To do it for the document you are currently working on only:
Select the Text Box Tool (DO NOT make a Text frame)
Select the Font you want to use
Select the Font size you want to use
You can also select any other attributes like bold or italic, text frame
properties
Then select the Arrow.
If you want to change this for all your future publications, and you can now
specify many other things like:
Layout Guides
Table Frame Properties
Table Frame Text (same as for Text Frames above)
Snap to Ruler Guides
Snap to Objects
Snap to Guides
Shadows to Pictures/Objects
Any item under the View menu
Measurements under the Tools menu then Options.
Now save this Publication as the name NORMAL.PUB and in the save dialogue
box select the TEMPLATE box and also if you want you can select the PREVIEW
box and now select SAVE.
You now have to shut Publisher down and reopen it, and the document you just
made will now always be your default document when you open Publisher and
select Blank Page.
