Changing field type

I have a spreadsheet which has a column with numbers in
the format 9-8915 etc, if I open the spreadsheet on one
computer it will show the numbers correctly, if I open it
on another computer it will show some of the values as
dates in the fomat mmm-yy.

Any idea how I can correct this on the 2nd computer
