Changing format in one place changes whole document

If I change the format of one paragraph, indent, bullet,
or numbering it changes the whole document. I can repair
it by clicking undo (Crtl-Z) once or go back to what it
was before I made any change by clicking undo twice. This
is very annoying and slowing my work big time.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I should add I'm using Word 2002 (XP?) on a system
running XP Home.

Thanks

You need to turn off Auto formatt from the formatt menu
first. Then you should go to the styles menu and select
each of the styles you are using and un tick the box which
says automatically update as what it is doing atm is
thinking that one bit whihc you are changing is related to
other parts in the same style.

Hope that works for you
