Changing Image Order Using Keystrokes

J

Jacob_F_Roecker

I hate having to use the mouse to select DRAW, ORDER, then ....

In the Adobe world I can change the order of my objects on a layer using
CTRL+[ or CTRL+].

What's the Microsoft Equivalent?

I know there's an MVP out there with the answer!

BTW You guys rule!

Hi Jacob,

AFAIK there is no keyboard shortcut in PowerPoint (and you cannot assign one
yourself in this program). But you can use Tools - Customize and place the
symbols on your drawing toolbar, then they are only one mouse click away.
(BTW, I do the same with the group/ungroup symbols.)

Kind regards,
Ute

Jacob,
I too hate mouse clicks for simple things. Make sure you have the
'Drawing' toolbar visible. Select and object using tab or ahift-tab
Under windows alt-R, activates the drawing toolbar. Alt-R R F bring the
selected object to the front. This is the same as using the mouse to
click 'Draw - order - Bring to Front'
but much faster.

There are many more shorcuts like this
but it takes the determination to master
what the key letters are. And I think sometimes uSoft changes them
between versions. HTH,

UG!

Where's the suggestion block for writing to Microsoft then? Since everyone
should be used to CTRL+[ and CTRL+] then Microsoft should make the program
get with us.

Possibly a dumb question... Is there a way to build a Macro to assign
personalized short cut keys? I'll be it's possible... That might be my
project this week.

Let me know if someone else has already done the work. I'm just as lazy as
anyone out there.

Chirag created a "shortcut manager" add-in that will let you do this. It's
not free, but it's not expensive.

To make a suggestion for Microsoft, use the "new post" button on the web
interface. You should get a drop-down box with options, one of which is
"suggestion." Just click that, then make your suggestion post. Not sure
which interface you're using now, so I'll go ahead and post this link, since
this version of the interface definitely has a suggestion option for this
newsgroup:

As a long-time PS and PPT user, I too appreciate keyboard commands, but it's
unreasonable to think all software vendors will standardize every keyboard
command, and it's more than a bit presumptuous to think "everyone" should
know a any particular keystroke. When differences spring up between two
applications, it's up to the user to overcome and adapt. It always has been
that way and always will be. To illustrate, I too wanted keyboard commands
for layers, so I improvised the following and it works fine:

ALT+] Bring Forward
ALT+> Bring to Front
ALT+[ Send Backward
ALT+< Send to Back

Record the four macros that change layering positions.

Save that file in a convenient place with an easy name.

Place those macros on a visible toolbar.

Set an accelerator key in each button as listed above.

Run this file in the background so the keys work with other PPT files.

(I also add other commonly used macros to this file.)
