changing my index page

i want to change the whole look of my index page, I originally selected a
terrible template and made it worse.

i have another page created that I would like to use as a replacement, can i
simply delete the original one and save the replacement with the same name?

Don't delete the original first or you will lose any hyperlinks to it. Just
save the new one with the same name and answer yes when it asks if you want
to replace it. That way you won't lose the hyperlinks from other pages to
your home page.
