Changing recurring appts w/o losing exceptions

Is there a way to make changes to a recurring appt, ie
extend the end range date without losing all the
exceptions. Now, if I try to make any change to the
recurring appt., it pops all the past exceptions to the
technically correct recurrence date. I do not want this
to happen!

Any help out there?
