Changing Resource Type

Right now we are using Microsoft Project 2003. For each resource we have a
(Enterprise Resource Outline Code) which only has 2 options = "Employee" or
"Consultant". Now for example a consultant becomes an employee. We change
this outline code, but here is the problem. The cost for the year that was
made by this "Consultant" continues onto "Employee." We need some way for it
to start over when the "Consultant" becomes "Employee". That way we know the
year cost while he/she was a "Consoltant" and the year cost while they are
"Employee." I don't think it is possible in Project 2003. Now is it possible
in Project 2007? Can someone help out please!!!!

If you change the resource rate at an effective date, the system certainly
tracks the cost change. But, when you change an outline code value, and then
use the outline code in the analyzer, for instance, the code change causes
the cost to dimension along the Employee value rather than the consultant
value.

I am new at this Project so if you or someone can explain in more detail how
exactly is cost change tracked. Ex: You change the resource rate on 01/01/05
so how does the system track before the date, and how does it track the same
resource after the effective date. And the other question is that when you
use this outline code in the Porfolio Analizer, the only you can do is filter
by wether a resource is a "Employee" or "Consultant". But that doesn't really
help.

Dimitry:

It doesn't track it, but it does calculate the costs when you want it to,
using the resource rate you specify.
