Changing text in header put same text in all headers

I am using the MANUAL.DOT template to create my document. I want to add a
Chapter 2 and change the headers on these pages.

Every time I change the text in the headers on one section they replace the
headers in all of the others. I have tried various combinations of options
in Page Layout in the header tool bar but nothing works.

There are two ways to do what you want. If the text you want to change in
the header is found in the document, you should investigate the StyleRef
field. Otherwise, you need to insert section breaks between chapters and
unlink the headers (turn off Same as Previous/Link to Previous on the Header
and Footer toolbar).

You have to turn off the Same As Previous button on the Header toolbar for
each section after the first. See item #5 in
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/PageNumbering.htm.

I found this out. It took me a while to figure out how to remove the "Same
As..." section break. The button is a toggle. I was looking for something
else to turn it off.

I also found that sometimes I cannot remove a section break; they don't
always highlight. One thing that seems to work is to put in a carriage
return and insert a section break at that point. Then I can go back and
delete the one I was having trouble with

Don't ever try to solve problems by removing a section break. You can change
the section start type on the Layout tab of Page Setup, and removing a
section break has no effect on whether or not a new section is linked to the
previous one.

That doesn't seem to be reliable. I assume that I must put the cursor
somewhere on a section and then go to File/Page Setup/Page Layout. Then
select one of the section types and hit OK. This does not always work.

One test was to change a section from Continuous to New Column. Nothing
happened on some sections; others it did change. I am confused
