Changing the Selection Background Color

When I select a group of cells (or even one, for that matter) I have
difficulty seeing which cells I have selected because the color is so
faint. Is there a way to change the color of the selection area? I
have tried changing color settings in OS X's System Preferences and in
Excel's preferences to no avail.

XL takes highlight colors from the system preferences on startup, so
you'll need to close and restart XL after changing System
Preferences.
