changing the size of a table

V

Vinson Lee

I can't seem to change the size of a table in a database
diagram. When I try to drag one of the sides to make it
bigger, it goes back to the original size even though it
is unprotected.

Changing the size for non database drawings works.

Hi, Vinson.

Thanks for using Database solution. The reason database shapes are not allowed to resize is because the solution automates sizing of the
shape according to the underlying model data. It is not advised to remove the protection because you could damage the integrity of the
presentation data with what's truly underneath.

Hi Chang Oh [MSFT], thanks for writing this:

I sometimes use a "hack" to make my entity shapes the same width. It's not
the cleanest solution (will raise havoc if you want to generate your db),
so you might not wish to use it ... but it does allow me to fix the width.

Just below the PK, I enter a column name that is a dot, followed by
several spaces, followed by another dot. You have to play around with the
number of spaces to put between the dots (at 6-pt Arial, I use about 50
spaces, so I save it elsewhere and copy/paste into the column name
textbox). I use a dot because it's hardly noticable.

Like I said, it's a hack.
