Changing the unit of measure to inches and the ruler doesn't chang

Help!

When I updated to Office 2003 the ruler in Word changed from inches to
something else (points, pica?). When I change the unit of measure to inches
or anything else, the ruler doesn't change.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
