Changing to eurodate format doesn't work on dates when merging ex.

I've changed the language option on the control panel and in office tools and
it displays correctly (06 may 2005) in the excel spreadsheet, but when I
merge that spreadsheet into a Word document, it converts the date to
06/05/05. Why?
