Chapters & Sections - Outline numbering

Raj

In my book I have few chapters and sections. I want auto numbering, so i used outline numbering for this

e.g "Chapter 1", where 1 should be generated automatically and the 1st section should be like "1.1 Introduction". But when I use outline numbering I get "Chapter 1.1 Introduction"

Please help me in getting the numbers in following styl

Chapter
1.1 Sectio
1.1.1 Subsectio
1.2 Another Sectio

Chapter
2.1 Sectio
2.1.1 Subsectio
2.2 Another Section

Hi Raj

It sounds like you're on the right path.

There's some info on how to do numbering like you need at:
How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Microsoft Word document
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html

I assume you're using the built-in Word heading styles (like Heading 1, Heading 2). If so, you can set up your numbering very easily. Follow the instructions on the page above. When you get to the Bullets and Numbering dialog, click the Outline Numbering tab. It shows various outline numbering schemes. Choose the second box on the second line. Click Reset, then Customize. You're now in the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog. You'll see that Level 1 is already selected. Click in the Number Format box, and before the number type "Chapter " (no quotes).
