charc show as you type

I am trying to figure out how to turn off the charc that show up when type a
document in ms word.
I hate the paragraph marks and the dots between words.
I would like the doc to appears as it would be printed.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Thank you very much for your help. I am new to working with software on the
computer. I am a hoardware person. Once again I appreciate it. As I know this
probably sounded like the dumbest question out there.

I like the concept of "hoardware." Even though it was a typo, it reminds me
of all the old software (some of it from the DOS era) that I've got stashed
around here even though I may never have any use for it again. <g>
