charts and smart art graphics choices grayed out in gallery

Hi,

I can use the gallery to insert document elements, quick tables and word art, but the charts and smart art graphics choices are grayed out and unclickable.

How can I fix this?

Never mind. I closed all open documents and opened a blank document and the missing elements "came back." Go figure.

There is no "go figure" about it ... And it will happen again - the next
time you work with a file saved in the 97-2004 format. That format doesn't
support those features so they're disabled in those documents. Take a look
at the title bar & you'll see the phrase [Compatibility Mode]. Use Save As
to create a copy in the 2007/2008 (OXML) format & the features will become
active.

Also, if you start with a new doc, use those features & Save As in the older
format the effects will be saved as pictures and un-editable in earlier
versions of Word.
