## Charts: (non-)fixed scale ##

Product: MS Excel 2002 (English version)

Table: Weight of parcel and its price
Weight (kg) Price (£)
0 0
1 3.32
1.5 4.27
2 4.58
4 6.91
6 7.54
8 8.59
10 9.23
30 10.76

What I wish to do:
Create a line chart for the above.

However the chart I create is somewhat like below:
{X-axis} [fixed scale]
12
11
10
..
..
..
3
2
1
0
0 1 1.5 2... 10 30 {y-axis} [non-fixed scale]

i. I would like to create a chart which both X-, Y-axis
is at fixed scale.
The desired chart is somewhat like below:

{X-axis} [fixed scale]
12
11
10
..
..
..
3
2
1
0
0 1 2 3 4... 27 28 29 30 {y-axis} [fixed scale]

Other Q:
ii. How can I change X-axis or y-axis into fixed scale or
non-fixed scale?
iii. How can I omit some values in X-axis or y-axis?
Eg: I just wish to show values of "1-10", "25-30" in y-
axis, others (ie "11-24") should be hidden.

Hello,
A Line chart (in Excdel terminiology) is used when the x-values are
categoical (often text not numbers). What you need is an XY chart. This is
the type of thing you made in high-school mahs and called a graph.

Select the data, open the Chart Wizard, in Step 1 select an XY chart. Skip
the other steps and press Finish. Now you should have what you want but it
will need some tidying up. I suggest you get a simple book on Excel to learn
the basic of charting.

Season's Greetings
Bernard

Thanks for your answer.
1. But is it possible for me to change its scaling style
(eg change X-axis or y-axis into fixed scale or
non-fixed scale?

2. Also is this previous question solvable:
===========
how can I omit some values in X-axis or y-axis?
Eg: I just wish to show values of "1-10", "25-30" in y-
axis, others (ie "11-24") should be hidden.

1. Right click on the chart, select Chart Type from the pop up menu, and
choose either Line Chart or XY Scatter Chart, depending on whether you
want a categorical or numerical axis. For more info:

Scatter Chart or Line Chart?

2. To do this you need to massage your data, and to skip a range on your
axis, you need to construct a dummy axis:
