cheap and easy Credit Card processing for sites

G

Greg

does anyone know where to look to set up credit card
sales on a site? (I use FP if that matters) Im trying
to sell webhosting that i want to autmatically recurre
every month as well as selling one time sales such as
creating websites. Im also a small business, well not
even that! im just a guy trying to make a few bucks on
the side so i dont want to have to deal with business
licenses and IDs and all that if possible.

I signed up with 2checkout.com which seems to be
relativly cheap and little confusing when it comes to
billing but EVERYTHING is so darn confusing to set up and
so many dead links...conviently for anything reguarding
to help or contacting support mostly. Anyway, i want out
of it and try to work with someone else. Im not looking
for another PayPal type company. i dont want someone to
have to be a member in order to send money. any ideas
would be appreciated. thanks!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for posting that! I had not heard that before. To me one of the
biggest downsides to PayPal was the membership restrictions in order to use
it for making payments. If that requirement is now gone, I believe PayPal is
a viable option for people wanting to setup credit card acceptance on their
sites.

Hi

Go to other web business hosting sites, see what they offer for
merchant accounts, then get hold of those credit card companies that handle
merchant accounts. One company that I can think of off the top of my head,
I believe is called authorize.net. But you might want to do a search on
"merchant credit card" or "merchant credit card accounts" or "merchant
credit card authorization" and see what you come up with.

Hi

I would think twice about using paypal as they have a nasty habit of
freezing merchant accounts if they even think something is going on. Then
it is up to you to use a pry bar to free up your funds. How long do you
think, you can stay in business when another company has your capital tied
up in litigation? Do a search on "paypal" and see the complaints that ebay
(ebay acquired paypal) isn't telling you. Another viable possibility is a
similar service put out by citi bank.

authorize net requires you to have a "merchant account". www.2co.com seems
nice. haven't heard anything bad about em yet.
for what it's worth, wait for Peachtree to have a big rebate (they often
equal the cost of the software) and use their clearing system. it runs
through the software and you just set up a merchant account with their
partner which is chase manhattan.

Im still going to keep Paypal in mind though. im trying to find on there about how to set this up but not much luck. what is the citibank one called and where is it? do buyers need to be a member to pay someone through that?

Well the Paypal site has gone down! it wont let me log in. oh well! just wanted to say though the citibank version you mentioned i think was called C2IT.com but there is a message there saying it was discontinued

I have never had a problem with PayPal.

Also if you have a regular merchant account and exceed the your monthly projected charges, many
providers will freeze your account or if you have too many chargebacks.

How are you using Paypal? Ive been using it for ebay for a while and i like it a lot but to use it for website sales, i dont want people having to sign up to be a paypal member before paying me. is that what you are doing or are you using it for people to pay you normally like with most websites selling things?

T

Thomas A. Rowe

No, just another one of my sites.

Can you point me to where that is on the Paypal site? I
can't find it, and hadn't heard of it. If it's true I'll
dump Propay.
