check box form field, how do I "check" using Enter Key

I have a doc wherein I have several check boxes added. When the doc is
locked, I can tab through the various check boxes. When a check box is
highlighted, I would like to "check" the box by using the ENTER key rather
than using a mouse. How do I make the check box toggle using the Enter key?

Hello-

No need to reprogram your Enter key- that would cause other problems anyway.
Just press the Spacebar to reverse the status of a checkbox.

Is there anyone else that finds this totally unobvious and unintuitive?
Until I ran across this information in another NG post recently I've just
been using the mouse because I couldn't figure out how to do it using the
keyboard.
