check boxes - How to make display checks or not?

I am using the Check Boxes from the Form Toolbar; however, I cannot make them
check or uncheck when selected. Can you please give me some advice on how to
control them on the document. Will these properties save if I then save the
document as a template for other users. Should I lock the form to safeguard
the formatting

Checkboxes from the forms toolbar are only active when the document is
protected for forms. There are a number of ways to create and use clickable
checkboxes in documents / templates. Some require protected or locked forms,
others do not. Take a look at the Checkbox template available at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/download.htm#CheckboxAddIn for an exploration
of these.
