Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi,

I write in greek in Word 2008 and even if I changed the language from the tools menu the spelling check doesn't work.

I have seen at the website that there no available proofing tools for greek. Is there any solution on that issue?

Thanks

Greek is not included in the languages that SpellCatcherX supports.

There is no way this can be done through Word?

Unfortunately not at this point,

Hi Maria:

OK, there is no way that this can be done "in Word 2008 for the Mac". But
there are several ways you "can do this on the Mac".

Mellel will work in Greek (both the user interface and the spelling).
http://www.redlers.com/mellelmultilingual.html

And Word 2003 or 2007 will spell-check in Greek (and will switch to Greek
user interface).

Word 2007 run on the Mac, either stand-alone with Wine, or in Parallels with
Windows.

You can get Wine as a pre-built installer here:
http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

Word 2007 will not run "perfectly" in Wine, so I use Parallels and Windows
7.

You can get Parallels here:
http://www.parallels.com/

Or you can use VMWare (which is slightly cheaper) here:
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/

If you are going to use either Parallels or VMWare, your Mac needs better
than 2 GB of RAM. I suggest 4 GB. That said, I do run it on my MacBook in
2 GB of RAM. It is VERY slow to start, but it works :)

Debate rages as to which one is "better". I say Parallels, but many on this
list will disagree vigorously: it tends to be a religious conviction :)

You will also need a copy of Windows. I suggest Windows XP for this,
because it's small, fast, and cheap. Buy it from Amazon or eBay (do try not
to buy it from China or it will be unlicensed, which means it will stop
working after a while).

If cost is not an issue, Windows 7 is much, much faster and more reliable.
Don't even think about installing Vista. You can get Windows 7 from any
software shop (and that's where I would get it, so you know it is properly
licensed).

Don't get sucked in to buying the "upmarket" versions of either flavour of
Windows: you want the BASIC version. The more expensive copies come with a
heap of bells and whistles you do not need on the Mac that will only slow
the machine down ‹ a lot!

Since you have Word 2008, I suggest that you buy Word 2003 as the PC
version. Word 2007 has a different user interface that you will find
distracting. You will need to download the free converter that enables 2003
to read and write 2007/8 file formats. If you apply all the software
updates needed for Word 2003, the converter will come in amongst them.

Don't bother trying to buy Word on its own: you can, but it's not
price-competitive. Get a copy of the whole Office 2003 or Office 2007.
There are a few other things that Office 2008 won't do either than you will
find useful on the Mac.

Word 2007 will be appearing at a discount soon, since the Word 2010 beta is
now available. You can buy that if you like: but you will find the
difference in user interface distracting going from Mac Word 2008 to PC Word
2007.

Whichever copy of Word PC you install, make SURE that you get the Greek
version, otherwise you may not have the Greek proofing tools. You can add
them later, but it's a fiddle to do so.

Don't be tempted to install the Word 2010 beta: while it runs very nicely,
Greek is not available for it yet.

There you go: Greek spell-checking is entirely possible on the Mac, just
not in Word for the Mac :)

Cheers
