Checking In Projects

Alice Roman

I keep getting a message that says I have to open a project in Read
Only mode, because a previous check in is not complete. If I go to
force check in, the project is not listed there. If I say Edit
project properties, save and publish, then press the back button, it
says it is checked out, do you want to check in, I say Yes and it
still remains checked out. Any ideas here?
Thanks

You can also clear other cache items and it is sometimes a good idea to do
so on occasion. To do this, you can do the following:

1) Log OFF of Project Professional 2007
2) Go to Start > Run
3) Enter %appdata%
4) Navigate to \Microsoft\MS Project
5) Delete folder "12" and "Cache"

Would like to piggyback on this post. I have a similar issue noted by Alice,
except that my projects do show on teh Force checkin page, but do not
process. i have cleared my cache via Project pro, but have not cleared out
teh cache folders noted by Jonathan.

Notice that I have a Global file in the 12 folder. Assume that's OK to
delete?

Could this be a db issue if these projects refuse to checkin?

If the project is still checked-out, you might not want to delete your cache
so you can re-open it in R/W via your cache.

However, if the project is just stuck now in checked-out mode please specify
what happens when you attempt to check it back in? You will need to have
access to the manage queue page under Server Settings to really get a good
idea of what is causing the plan to be stuck. My hunch is that there are
some jobs stuck in the queue from days or weeks past that are preventing the
check-in job from starting. In the Manage queue page, set the Job History
date range to a week or so back and also only select the Job Complete States
that could be causing a blockage. Those are:

Blocked Due To A Failed Job
Failed And Blocking Correlation
Getting Queued
Processing

Although "Waiting to be Processed" also blocks jobs, I would not show that
one because it could potentially show 100s of these types of jobs as they
all backup once a job gets stuck in one of the four states above.

Let us know what you find out?

And to answer your other question, yes, it is OK to delete the entire "12"
folder and "Cache" folder including the global file when deleting your cache
files. They will be re-created the next time you log into Project
Professional and start accessing project plans.
