Chess symbols in Word 2003

How do you get symbols for chess pieces in a Microsoft Word document?

In a slightly older version of MS Word (2000 I think) I was able to
Insert/Symbol and get them. Now I have a newer version (2003, SP2),
and if I bring up an old document that had chess piece symbols in it,
they are changed. For instance, a black king now shows up as a
superscript "3". Now I can't find the chess symbols under
Insert/Symbol. How do I get the chess piece symbols in Word 2003?

I'd guess that you have different fonts installed with Word 2000 - perhaps
on a different machine?

There are some chess symbol fonts such as Chess Utrecht, you can download it
from http://www.chessvariants.com/d.font/utrecht.html .

Unicode fonts have the chess symbols
http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/Unicode-3.2/U32-2600.pdf

Find a Unicode font on your drop-down list, Arial Unicode is quite common,
and change the font for the symbols from whatever it is now to, for
instance, Arial Unicode.
