Chinese characters in Properties

I am running Word2003 on WindowsXP Home Edition. When I click on the
Properties option under File, I see Chinese characters where English words
should be. What is wrong? How can I change that? I've reinstalled deleted
normal.dot and reinstalled Word but it's still the same.

Does anybody have any suggestions?
