choose drawing template no longer organized by categories

I did some spring cleaning to get rid of several custom drawing templates I
no longer needed, and now none of the icons or thumbnails for all the default
templates appear when I select File -> New -> Choose Drawing Type. All I see
is 1 category called "(Other)" containing all the templates by filename.
Similarly, no template categories are listed under File -> New, instead it
just lists all the default templates in order by filename. I even tried
uninstalling and reinstalling (and cleaning all Visio directories I can find
in the middle), but the view always looks the same after a reinstall.

I have poked around and everything appears to be set right, pointing to the
right paths, etc. Any idea what file(s) or setting(s) controls the grouping
of default templates into categories?

I'm running Visio Pro 2003.

If you are talking about the standard Visio temlates, then they are all
stored as dos format names the Viso install folder. The verbose Category
and Template names are translations installed by Visio msi. I guess they
ended up in the registy. So, perhaps you went too far with your culling?

You could try repairing Visio?

Tried repairing, Visio tells me it was "successful", but the behavior is
unchanged. I assume the Category/Template name translations are stored in a
DLL - any idea which one?

You say the file paths are all correct, so I wonder if you are trying to
specify the file paths in Tools > Options > Advanced > File Paths. You
should NOT include the built-in content locations here. File Paths in Visio
2003 and later is only for custom content installed somewhere else.

That did the trick. Thanks.
