Citation Manager - moving list to different computer

I recently emailed a Word document to myself from my Mac so that I could work on it on my PC while i was traveling. It had a large list of references in the citation manager, but when I opened the document on the PC, the citation manager was empty. Is there a way to get those listings in the citation manger to the PC with the document?

Hmm....Possibly. Are you up for a small experiment?

On the mac, your sources are saved in [username]/Documents/Microsoft
User Data/Sources.xml.

Theoretically, you should be able to move that file onto the PC, let it
replace the WinWord version, and then WinWord will read the file from
the mac. I haven't tried this, myself. Be sure to quit all Office apps
first, and backup anything you move, just in case.

WinWord keeps its source file here:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Bibliography\Sources.xml
(It won't exist until it's needed, so no worry if you don't see it, just
move the Mac one)

Even if the main citation manager reads the Sources.xml file with no
problem, I don't know whether the connection between the document and
sources will maintain. However, this blog post suggests it will (see the

Hi Kathy -

I believe the only file involved is:

UserName/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Sources.xml

However, there can only be one at a time in

any given user's MUD folder so if you copy from one place to another make
sure you either move or rename the existing Sources.xml so you don't wind up
*replacing* it... Unless you know it to not contain any sources of its own.
It may be possible to copy sources from one Sources.xml to another but I'm
not sure. Also, it would be best that Word not be running while you make the
replacement.
