Citrix

Hi Everybody, I dug through the posts and I'm still not sure I have what I
need to know. I'm a secretary in over my head here. I created a really cool
database that everybody wants to use. I'm clueless about Citrix and my IT
dept is clueless about Access. I managed to get IT to publish my database
onto Metaframe so that I can share it. I went into the published file and
set up my user and group permissions. I'm ready to split the database but I
don't see how this can be done. Seems I need to create a front end for each
user. Do I have to get the IT guys to publish each front end? I mean it
doesn't seem like I can just copy and paste the front ends into the folder
can I ? What if I use the wizard and instruct it to save the front end on my
hard drive? Can I then copy and send it to all the users? Will the front
end be able to find the backend on metaframe?

If it works like the ones I have dealt with it shouldn't matter. Citrix
basically shares the application that is running on the server. If it works
locally on the Citrix server, then it should work as a published application.
Is the back end on a file server? That would be the only thing that
wouldn't make it work. If you have a mapped drive to the back end, say drive
G:\, then everyone that logs into the Citrix server would need to have a
drive G:\.

OK. So I can't do this then. IT will have to publish the front end into
everybody's folders and I know they will not. Plus, if I make a change to
the front end, they will have to re-publish every front end. They have
already told me they will not do anything else with this file. It took me
over a year of fighting just to get this far. I hate to scrap this project
but it's not likely that IT is going to let a secretary have the right to
publish files on their citrix server. Thanks anyway.

There are strategies and tools available that can completely automate the
process of updating a front end file so that your IT department would still
only be involved in the initial setup and then everything after that would
take care of itself.
