Clean Install of Outlook 2007 is looking for msncon.dll

I am installing a full version (not upgrade) copy of Office Pro 2007 on a PC
that used to have Office XP Pro and Office Connector. Before instaling 2007
I uninstalled Office XP and Office Connector using add/remove programs. I
deleted all pst files. The Outlook folder in Program Files was empty. I
wanted a clean install of 2007.

Word, Excel, etc all work fine. The first execution of Outlook runs thru
the "Configuring Outlook" script, starting with "Migrating Account Settings".
This is where the install looks for msncon.dll (error message "Cannot start
MS Office Outlook . . . MAPI was unable to load msncon.dll . . ."). A common
answer in the forum is to install the latest version of Outlook Connector. I
don't want Outlook Connector but the clean install thinks that I do. A scan
of the registry finds references to msncon in
HKEY_CURRENT_Users\..WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook and also in HKEY_USERS\..Profiles\Outlook. This
is old, leftover information from Outlook XP and Office Connector.

Is there a way to purge all the old Outlook / Connector stuff so I can
actually do a clean install?

Thanks for your help. It worked great.

Earlier, I had gone into the Mail link in Control Panel and tried to remove
the existing MAPI email connections and the existing Outlook profile but it
wouldn't let me. It always said the files were in use - being copied to a
new profile. Creating a new profile and starting Outlook with that profile
was the key. I am amazed at all the good information that is available, all
you need it to know where to look.

I have two more PCs to update (these are currently running B2TR). A little
scanning of these sites for tips, before I start the change, is in order.

Thanks again.

You are still performing an upgrade. To reset additional settings locate
outcmd.dat and extend.dat and rename it to .old. Additionally recreate your
mail profile;
