Cleaning Up Old Enterprise Fields/Codes

I need to remove a couple of old Enterprise Fields. I was
planning on going into the database and cleaning them out
this way but I wanted to ask if there was another way to
do this before I go ahead.

Does anyone have any experience with removing old
Enterprise Fields (two are PRoject Number Fields and two
are Project Text Fields)

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
