clearing an address from outlook

I need to clear an address from Outlook (Office XP). An
email address had to be changed and the former address has
been taken by another subscriber. I've cleared the
address from the contacts, searched out and deleted all
messages sent to and recieved from that address but it
continues to come up as two of the selections when the
recipient's name is entered in a new message. Sometimes
it is the top entry and since the addresses are only
different by one letter it is easy to inadvertently select
the wrong email address and the messages goes to the wrong
recipient. How do I clear tht email address from my
computer system?
