'Click Here and Type' boxes disabled

I have suddenly experienced all the "Click here and
type..." boxes in all my templates - even in the Microsoft
Word templates - being disabled. When I click on
the 'box', the typing begins just prior to the box and
pushes the box along in front of the typing.

I have even attempted to reprogram the MacroButton field
with no success, and can only presume the disabling of
some master command without knowing it.

Any suggestions?

Tools>Options>Edit and check "typing replaces selection"
