clicking on .doc file gives me "invalid path"

Been an annoyance for sometime now. Using Word 2000 (SP3). Clicking on a
file with .doc extension elicits "The document name or path is not valid"
error message in Word.

Suzanne, this version was licensed and registered as an OEM version and came
pre-installed on this Dell computer.

"Reregistering" Word has nothing to do with activation or registering the
software with MS; it just means reestablishing its ownership of the .doc and
..dot file types in the Windows Registry.
