Clicking "Save" defaults to "Save As"

I am running Office 2003 and also working in an corporate environment. I'm
having trouble saving documents on home drives. When saving an existing
document via the "Save" button or Ctrl+S it will always bring up the "Save
As" dialogue box. When saving to the C: drive or a shared network drive this
problem does not occur. I've tried resetting toolbars, resetting keyboard
shortcuts, but I'm still not sure how to resolve this issue. Any assistance
would be great.

Are you opening the documents from removable media? Copy to the hard drive
first.

Hi,

One thing you must understand is that any document that is not actually
located on a physical hard drive(in your computer or network) Word will
automatically try to create a file for you in your local drive when you save
it. This usually happens for opened attachments from emails, etc. Is the file
that you are trying to use from an attachment or another source? The best
thing to do first is to open the document, give the file a physical location
and then you can modify it.

The main reason why that problem does not occur on a shared network or C: is
because Word already know "where" the document is(physically).

Not so much removable media, but our desktops/my documents etc are all stored
and backed up on the servers, so when saving to the desktop you're not
accessing C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop you're accessing a path
similar to
\\Domain\Folder\Folder\Folder\User\Desktop\. This was working fine intially
but recently it has changed where it prompts to Save As every time something
is saved when located on what we call our "Home Drives"
(\\Domain\Folder\Folder\Folder\User\)

I've tried creating a number of test word files and the problem still
occurs, it's not an attachment or from another source.

From what you're saying, I can understand why this would save correctly if
located on the C: but I'm also able to save files to a department shared
network drive with no issues. It seems to only happen when I save it to my
own personal network drive (That each employee has -
\\Domain\Folder\Folder\Folder\User\)

I'm sorry if my descriptions are vague, if you need further clarification
please let me know.
