clip art doesn't transfer

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I have a PC with PowerPoint 2007 at home. I have an iMac with PowerPoint 2008 at work. I have created a PowerPoint presentation on the PC in PP2007 and have added clip art to the presentation. I've save the presentation as .pptx. When I bring up the presentation on my iMac in PowerPoint 2008, the text comes up fine, but the clip art is missing. This has happened numerous times to me. It doesn't seem to matter if I save the original presentation to a thumb drive or send it to my office iMac through email. The clip art just disappears. Can anyone explain why this happens and how to fix the problem?

Thanks,

Akilah

Without more exact details the only suggestion I can offer is to make sure
that both installations of Office are fully updated.

Unfortunately, the term 'clipart' has been perverted to include just about
*anything*, including various audio, video & raster file formats. Not all of
them are supported on both platforms. It can also depend on how the clipart
objects were "added". There are several convenience features (copy/paste,
drag & drop) which can alter the nature of the object, so they're best
avoided -- especially for files that will travel from one platform to
another. There's also the question as to whether the objects were actually
embedded or whether they were linked to.

If you can provide those details plus anything else perhaps there are some
suggestions to be offered. It would also be helpful to know whether there
truly is _nothing_ where the images are supposed to be or whether there are
actually empty image frame or something else in those locations.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm not sure I can answer all of your questions, but here is some additional information.

Some of the clip art is from google and some is from the Office online feature. I google an image, click on the one I want, and copy it into PowerPoint where I then size it to fit the slide. I then save the presentation.

When I bring up the presentation on my mac laptop or my iMac, there is no image. The text spacing on a slide is still formatted as if there were an image present, but there is no image and no visible box for the image.

I don't know if the images are embedded or just linked.

Thanks,

Akilah

Well, that helps a little :) The matter could be directly related to what
version of which browser you're using combined with the 'copy/paste' method
of retrieving the images. Some browser versions actually copy as a link to
the image. It displays in the file you paste it to but if the file goes
elsewhere the link is effectively broken. The program displaying the file
doesn't know what to display so it displays nothing. If you click in the
space where the image should be you may find that a bounding box is there
even though the image isn't.

In addition to the updating I mentioned try actually downloading the image
from the source. Then use the Picture button on the Insert tab of the PPT 07
Ribbon & see if you have a better result.

To pile onto what CyberTax wrote-

Most web browsers offer Save Picture as File, or Save Image when you
right-click on a picture. Use that method to save the picture as a file,
then use Insert > Picture > From File. That way the exact file gets put
into the presentation and unpredictable changes are avoided.

Well, yeah, Jimmy, that's kinda what I thought I suggested... Except that it
makes no difference *how* the image gets downloaded to disk and in PPT 2007
there is no "Insert> Picture> From File" to use. Office 2007 did away with
what the Dark Side now refers to as "The 'Classic' User Interface"... Or was
this, along with the "CyberTa*x*" typo just an attempt to vex me ;-)

Sorry about the typo. I've never, ever thought of you as a tax. I've
always thought of you as the whirlwind/energy/amazingly bright sort of
person.

And sorry that I couldn't check the 2007 interface as I wrote that
message. I had uninstalled Office 2007 and attempted to install Office
2010, but when I went to get a new product key received a message that
more product keys would be available April 30. Not sure why Microsoft
ran out of Office 2010 product keys, but they did. Office must be very
popular. Maybe I should get some Microsoft stock, because if the beta is
any indication 2010 will sell like hotcakes. And then later this year
Office 2011 comes out - even more $$ for Microsoft.

There must be some equivalent of Insert > Picture > From file, right?
Office 2010 is installing now. I'll play around with it and see.

OK 2010 is installed and working now. This seems very much like the 2007
ribbon. Insert > Picture and then the file browser opens to choose a
file. I didn't keep 2007, but I think it's the same there.

Oh BULL, it's too late to kiss up now ;-)

Easy... It's the *fix* for 2007, just like 2003 was the fix for 2002 & 2011
will be the fix for 2008.

Well, don't mortgage the house or count your chickens just yet. You're
seeing a high demand for keys from those who are getting them *gratis*...
Those who have to pay may not be so quick to do so even if they want to.
Remember, MS big bucks come from corporate/gov't clients, many of which have
sunk their budgets into 2007, are just now getting the kinks out & aren't in
a position to dig more deeply into their pockets... They're already
scratching their ankles. Combine the economic issues with the the fact that
many only upgrade every-other version to begin with, it may be a while
before MS starts to see a [significant] return on their investment.

Yeah & according to your later post you've found it... Can't slip much past
you, can they? :) I actually haven't done anything with 2010 yet, but I
understand that one of the key improvements is customizability.

A moment of silence in sympathy for those whose employers have landed on the bad
side of the every-other-version upgrade cycle. 2002 and then 2007? Pity them.
