Clip Gallery Database failed to open

Hello, One of the teachers at my school is running Office 2008 on a MacBook
with OS X.5.5. WHen she tried to add clip art by selecting
insert->picture->clip art, she gets a message stating that the clip art
gallery database failed to open.

I have tried deleting preferences, throwing out the Microsoft User Data
folder, uninstalling and reinstalling office, but yet the issue persists.

Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Julie;

The first thing to do is make sure that Office is fully updated (12.1.4) &
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions.

If that doesn't resolve it - with no MS programs running - remove the
com.microsoft.ClipGallery.prefs.plist file located in:

~\UserName\Library\Preferences\Microsoft

Then Launch Word & see if that corrects the problem. Reply with your
results.

For future reference - no criticism, just info - the 2 approaches you
mentioned are probably the worst things you could do :) The MUD folder
contains nothing that relates to the Clip Gallery but does contain user data
for Entourage as well as a number of other critical user-specific Office
data. Also, Reinstalling Office rarely resolves anything because it isn't
the actual application files that cause the problems and the files that are
at fault don't get replaced by a reinstall. Also, it sets the version back
to square one necessitating the reinstallation of updates in order to get
Office components back in sync.
