Close an mdb file from within another mdb file

Access 2003-2007. I would like to be able to close a database file which is
open in background, from within another database which is open and active.

I know where to the attach the code but don't know how to go about this.

'Database 1' is opened by a shortcut on the desktop. It contains hyperlinks
to various other databases. When the user clicks on a hyperlink to open
another database, I would like 'database 1' to close.
