close document without closing word

I need to close out a word 2003 document without closing word. When I click
on the x to close the document, word closes

If you have just one document open, there are two X's, one for the document
(lower) and one for the app.

Or you can use File, Close on the menu. The tiny x is sometimes off the
screen. If you don't see it, resize the window.

Also, CRTL + W will close the open file but leave Word open.
