close out of admin templates

we have been running 2003 Project for 3-4 years therefore some of the admin
and support templates are carrying huge amounts of data. Do you have a
reccomendation for only updating current info? I'm thinking that I will have
to close out the current tempates and create new ones, but that seems a
nightmare.

I'm sorry Gary, but do you mean best practice is to close out each template

I think Gary's smilie indicates that he recognizes that it's a lot of
effort. So perhaps you can try this:

1. Save your current admin and support projects as templates,
removing the actual values but saving anything else you want to
retain, such as resource assignments.
2. Carefully review each of the "new templates" to ensure that the
tasks, resources, etc are valid.
3. Open each current admin and support project and change the booking
type for every resource from committed to proposed, then save and
republish the plan. This step should remove the current admin and
support tasts from peoples' timesheets.
4. Consider archiving the current projects. I have a procedure that
shows how this can be done.
5. Publish the new ones. Use a defined period of time and lock the
actual start date so that the finish date doesn't drift.

Hope this helps,

this has been great information, I will attempt your best practice with the
template copying. Now what about your process on archiving, can I get that to
review to see if we should do that as well?
