Close task to update

Can anyone provide a good explanation of what "Close task to update" does in
PS2007? I assume it prevents someone from posting updates to the tasks, but
what about time posting? Can someone still report time in their timesheet?
What specifically occurs when you close a task to time reporting?

Thanks!

Off the top of my head, closing tasks to updates does just that, and
therefore affects the TASK updates sheet.

The timesheet is a different enterty, updating this has no effect on TASKS,
therefore I suspect you will be able to update the timesheet for a closed
task.

However, without a system in front of my to clarify, I'm just taking an
educated guess.

Therein is the $1M question :) So if i've closed a task to update and
someone then reports time, what do we do with that time? ideally if a task
is closed to update, I'd want it to also not allow time reported against it.
Need to confirm that's what it does - or does not do.

In MSP there is a task field called Publish (yes/no - defaults to
Yes). If you set this to No (and publish!) the assignment is removed
from My Tasks and does not pre-populate timesheet and is not available
thru add lines option. So basically the same as Close task to update
only better and PM can do it in MSP.

A quck test shows taht closing tasks to update stops them appearing on the
timesheet too.
