Closed Personal folders password prompts

I used to have several personal folders available to access whenever I opened
Outlook. Now I have closed the folders and they no longer automatically show
up in the list. However, two of the folders were password protected and
Outlook keeps asking me for the password to these folders at random times
during the day. Whether I click cancel or enter the password and click OK
the folders remain closed (are not in the list of folders).

How do I get rid of these prompts for the password on folders that are not
in use?

Operating system is 2000 Pro, Outlook 2002 with SP-2. I also have LookOut
installed for searches.

Thank you for your time.

If the folder files are archive files, I can understand why Outlook might
ask you for their passwords periodically: each time the archive process
tries to access them. Archive files don't need to show in the folder list
to be active. Try disabling the archive function to see it the prompting
stops.

Thank you for the response. I don't believe I used the archive function to
make the files, but that does not mean it is not now causing the dysfunction.
Regardless, I will try to turn it off. Guess I will have to reopen the
folders and change the archive settings, then close the folders and see what
happens.

Thank you for your time.

That seems to be the fix. While I did not have archiving turned on for any
of the folders in question, the associated deleted items folder in each one
did have auto archiving turned on. I turned it off for the deleted items
folders and then closed the pst files. I shutdown Outlook and restarted it.
The password prompts have ceased and desisted.

Thank you for your time.

I spoke too soon. This morning the same password message appeared for a
folder that is not open and does not have any archiving function applied.
Registry hack required?

I'm stumped. Sorry.
