Closing Last File - Excel & Word 2007

In Excel 2007, when I close my last file, Excel remains open, and then I must
close it. In Word 2007, when I close my last file, Word closes, too. Why
the difference? Is there a way I can set them both to work the same way?

I have this problem in PowerPoint 2007. Closing the last document closes
PPT, just the way it does in Word. Makes me nuts.

I've put the "close" button on my QAT and trained myself to use that. Using
this button closes the last document, but leaves the application open.

Thanks! That's a good idea. I'd still like to know, though, if there's a
setting somewhere that can be adjusted.

I have this problem in PowerPoint 2007. Closing the last document closes
PPT, just the way it does in Word. Makes me nuts.

I've put the "close" button on my QAT and trained myself to use that. Using
this button closes the last document, but leaves the application open.

I think if you turn off "show all windows in taskbar," it may let you do
what you want. Can't remember for sure, though, sorry.
