Code Missing in Split & Code View

I really hope someone can help me today. I have been working on a website
that I thought was almost ready to publish online. I was trying to change a
menu I had set up and that's when everything went down the tubes.

For some reason it seems I lost all my CODE, as this is what is happening.
1. I now have double top shared border
2. When I was in the index page (that was the one I was working on) I
clicked on Preview, all that was there was my top "single" shared border.
3.I went back into the Design View and everything was gone except a top
"double" shared border.
4. In the Code View there is very few lines and when I compare the code
lines to my other pages they are not correct at all. The rest of the code is
completely gone.

Just so I am explaining myself clear, now on the Index page the is NOTHING
except that top "double shared" border. All text, graphics etc are gone.

BUT, if I close Frontpage and when asked if I want to save anything I click
NO when I reopen the Index page it is again visual but with still a double
top, and still all the missing code. I tried at one point to just eliminate
the double top and the page went blank. Luckily I was able to just put it
back the way it was.

At this point I am scared to death to try anything as I don't want to lose
the rest my the pages. I am sure it is in the writing of the HTML code but
how can I correct it, if I cannot see it? Plus, how can I correct it when I
don't know how to?

I apologize for such a long post but I did not know how else to explain
this. I have tried to read everything you have in this forum and so far I
cannot find anything that answers this question. I seen plenty of people that
lost the Code View tab, but that is not my problem.

I cannot give you a URL as this is not online yet. I am using FP2003 with
WinXP sp2.

Any suggestions would really be welcome....

Thanks

I would like to let you know what has happened since I posted the problem
explained
earlier today.

I used the Index page of my website (since that is where I was having
problems) copied and pasted the few lines of code that there was into Notepad.

When I did that the complete code showed up in the notepad. I was amazed! So
I tried to see where the HTML was written wrong to correct it and thought I
did see some errors, so corrected them. Copied the corrected code back into
FP Index page and walla the page and everything appeared correctly. The CODE
view was also in view so I clicked on saved to try and save this and when I
did that everything went back to the way it was.

So now I sit with the Index page as previously stated and just a few lines
of code in the code view. At least I do know that the page is still around
but how do I clean up this mess and get it running correctly.

Won't someone please take some mercy on me and give me some advice.

Thanks

That indicates your code is invalid and breaking the page
Try a clean new page w/ progressive saves to see where it breaks
You can also try Tools Browser Compatibility to see what errors it shows

Thank you for your advice. I did go back and clean up the HTML by using the
copied text in my Notepad. Everything seems to be working fine now. I just
hope it stays that way.

Thanks again.
