Collaborating on a Project Plan

We have a team working on a Project task and want them to update status and other information but want to make sure one person on one computer isn't typing in the same information as another user on their computer. Is there a way when working with a group on a project that we can make sure 2 people aren't typing in the same information when updating the task?

If you assign a task to two resources, the system splits the task into two
parts or "assignments." So, when a resource updates a task, he/she is really
updating an assignment on a task. Therefore, there is no conflict between
the users. One can be 100% complete on their portion of the task while the
other resource may only be 2% complete. The overall completion of the task
is reflected in the Project Plan when the updates are made by the Project
manager. In this case the overall status might be 51% complete.
