Collective Duration bar style formating?

Hi, I can get an individual bar to change colour when the Duration is more
than 6 hours (using A customized Flag), but how do I get it to change when,
say Joe Blow does several tasks (4 - 2 hour tasks) which create a collective
duration of more than 6 hours?
TIA, Colin D.

Colin,
So which of the 4 tasks do you want to change color? And are you sure
you want to detect Duration? It sounds more like you might want to
detect Work for a given resource; say a different bar color for those
tasks that have Joe working 6 or more hours in a single work day.

Sometimes a formula in a customized field will help get what you need,
but if formula starts to get complex or involves doing something to more
than just the task where the formula resides, then VBA will most likely
be required.

Hope this helps.

John,
I would like all of the task bar to change colour, I know it sounds like I'm
looking for the critical path (which turns red), but unlike a critical path
I will have as many as 6 or 7 tasks that will fit into the criteria of being
over the limited duration allowed. I was hoping that the Flag customizing
would do it, but it only looks at the druation of each task, were as I want
it to look at the collective duration of all linked tasks. And in a simple
manner, VBA is something I don't know about and probably wont have the
opportunity to learn. The project(s) I work with are for equipment turn
arounds or shutdowns of only 8 to 12 hours duration, sounds like micro
managing? it is. The culture is that way here. So if there is a formula that
I can use in a customized field, it would be great.
TIA, Colin D.

Colin,
You are right, formulas only deal with data for that task. However, your
description this time sounds a little different than your original post.
Originally you wanted to look at collective durations for a given
resource. Now it looks as though you want to look at collective
durations of sequential tasks. I guess if the same resource is assigned
to the sequential tasks, then they are both the same.

VBA code to do what I think you want is pretty straightforward. If you
give us some more details, we can help you out. You many write me direct
if you wish.
