Color Bars and Registration Marks

Mike

I want to run 2 color business cards 10-up on a 8.5x11
sheet. How do I add registration marks to the page? When
I set 4 on the page I have the marks but not 10 up. There
looks like plenty of room for them. Thanks, Mike

What you need to do is use larger size paper. Presently they are off the
standard size sheet you are using.

If you have installed the MS MDI printer or Acrobat installed and you use a
larger sheet size you will see the marks you are looking for on the screen.
You will need a sheet that is at least 12mm to 16mm larger all round than
you are presently using.

Hi Mike,

Something else I often see is clients who want to give me
a multi up layout on bc's and they only want to print 500
of 1. It sounds like you want to print this offset, so
unless you have 10 names, 4 up is plenty. It will take
the press person more time to set up the job than to run
it. Ask your printer what there preferences are. Also
unless your cards bleed, do not use gutters inbetween the
cards.

I would highly suggest that there is communication with the printer
about this issue. Many printers do NOT want the files to be created as
multiple up, since it can make automatic imposition more difficult. Many
printers have automated workflows that use imposition software such as
Preps to automate jobs. When customers try to help, they often make the
jobs harder and slower to produce, rather than make things easier. So,
communication between customers and printers is very important from the
start.

I agree. Ask the Printer doing the work first. We use
Preps here and it makes it a pain when customer try
to "help" with our work.
